Founded in 1982 by violinist Christiaan Bor, the Amsterdam Chamber Music Society (“het Reizend MuziekGezelschap”) established itself as a major chamber music series in the Netherlands, presenting some of the world’s finest musicians annually throughout the country. The original group of musicians met in the seventies while studying in Los Angeles with the legendary Jascha Heifetz and Gregor Piatigorsky, and played together regularly at chamber music festivals in Europe, Canada and the United States.
Inviting different guest performers to the series each year, the Amsterdam Chamber Music Society has combined masterworks from the repertoire with rare and often neglected chamber music in various combinations.
In 2018 Mathieu van Bellen has succeeded Christiaan Bor as musical director of the Amsterdam Chamber Music Society.

Christiaan Bor
Christiaan Bor made his debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam at age sixteen and has since performed as soloist with orchestra, in recital and in chamber music throughout Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Asia, Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Canada and the United States. He was born in Amsterdam (1950) and began playing the violin at the age of five as a student of his father, Jan Bor. He studied with Herman Krebbers at the Muzieklyceum in Amsterdam, and continued his musical education with Jascha Heifetz at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Bor is the founder and music director of the Amsterdam Chamber Music Society and has recorded for Philips, Pelican, CBS, Fidelio and Vanguard Classics.
Mathieu van Bellen
Mathieu van Bellen uit Hulst begon zijn vioolstudie in België bij Nico Baltussen, en vervolgde zijn opleiding bij Jan Repko aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam en Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester. Die opleiding werd hem mogelijk gemaakt door een studiebeurs van De VandenEnde Foundation in Amsterdam. In London studeerde hij bij Itzhak Rashkovsky, en in Berlijn aan de Hochschule für Musik bij Ulf Wallin.
Hij was laureaat van onder andere de internationale Yehudi Menuhin Competition en de Wieniawski Competition en in Nederland van het Prinses Christina Concours en het Oskar Back concours. Verder won hij de MBF, RPS Emily Anderson Prize, de Philharmonia Martin Musical Scholarship Funds Awards en Making Music Awards. Ook kreeg hij de Bach Prize en werd hij String Player of the Year 2008 op de Royal College of Music. Mathieu gaf concerten in Europa, Azie en in the VS, hij speelde op grote muziekfestivals zoals de Festspiele MV in Duitsland en deed mee aan Kamermuziek Festivals in heel Europa. Hij deed een aantal radio en televisie optredens, en hij speelde in zalen zoals de Purcell Room in het Southbank Centre, de Royal Festival Hall in London, het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, het Tel Aviv Opera House en het Megaron in Athena waar hij speelde met het Nationaal Orkest van België, het Holland Symphonie Orkest, de Southbank Sinfonia en het Camerata Athena.
Mathieu is een actief kamermusicus. In concerten voor kamermuziek werkte hij onder andere samen met Shlomo Mintz, Miguel da Silva, Michael Collins en Bruno Giuranna. Mathieu is de violist in het Busch Trio, dat werd opgericht in 2012. Het Busch Trio gaf concerten in Europa en Azië, met name in het Concertgebouw te Amsterdam, de Wigmore Hall in Londen, het BOZAR te Brussel en in het National Center for Performing Arts (NCPA) te Beijing.
De eerste CD van Mathieu kwam uit in November 2014, met solowerken van Bach, Christian Blaha en Béla Bartók. In hetzelfde jaar was hij concertmeester van het Europees Jeugd Orkest onder leiding van Vasily Petrenko en Vladimir Ashkenazy, met o.a. concerten in de Proms te Londen en in het Concertgebouw te Amsterdam.
In 2015 won Mathieu in Amsterdam de Grachtenfestival Prijs, waardoor hij bij het Grachtenfestival 2016 ‘Artist in Residence’ zal zijn.
Mathieu van Bellen speelt op de ex-Adolf Busch G.B. Guadagnini viool (Turijn 1783) en met een strijkstok van Dominique Peccatte, die hem door private sponsoren in bruikleen werden gegeven, waarvoor hij zeer erkentelijk is.
